Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent
Genres: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 27, 2018

Synopsis

Willow Taylor lives in a castle with large walls and iron fences. But this is no ordinary castle. It’s called Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital and it houses forty other patients. It has nurses with mean faces and techs with permanent frowns.

It has a man, as well. A man who is cold and distant. Whose voice drips with authority. And whose piercing gray eyes hide secrets, and maybelinger on her face a second too long.

Willow isn’t supposed to look deep into those eyes. She isn’t supposed to try to read his tightly leashed emotions. And neither is she supposed to touch herself at night, imagining his powerful voice and that cold but beautiful face.

No, Willow Taylor shouldn’t be attracted to Simon Blackwood, at all.

Because she’s a patient and he’s her doctor. Her psychiatrist.

The medicine man.

WARNING: This book discusses sensitive issues including but not limited to, depression and suicide.

Synopsis

Truth: Penn Walker entered my life like a summer storm—dark, ominous, and filled with thunder.

After witnessing my husband’s murder, I didn’t have much of a heart left to offer a man.

But Penn took it all.
Every jagged shard.
Every broken bit.
Even the dirty and twisted pieces that I wish never existed.

Lie: I didn’t need him to save me.
Lie: I knew exactly who he was.
Lie: Losing him wouldn’t destroy me.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

Review

Oh my goodness after that shocking cliffhanger at the end of The Truth About Lies I have wanted to get my hands on The Truth About Us and luckily I didn’t have to wait too long because the second book released less than a month later. Thank goodness for small miracles!

This story was absolutely INCREDIBLE and I can’t believe all the twists and turns the author took us on in this highly anticipated conclusion in The Truth Duet. Aly Martinez is one of my favorite authors and when I first heard about this duet I knew it was going to be a hit because she is truly the QUEEN OF DUETS and her newest one was most certainly no exception.

Cora and Penn’s chemistry was off the charts and I adored these two right from the very beginning. Both of their hearts suffered a loss, but in the end everything always happens for a reason. After the ending in the first book I wasn’t sure what to expect for these two. I mean did they really have a chance at happiness after all of the lies? I had no clue, but I was rooting for them all the way to the end. Since I don’t want to give away anything, I will just say that readers need to prepare themselves because this story will be nothing like they expect. I mean it when I say that you are all going to love the rollercoaster of events that The Truth About Us takes you on. Oh there is so much more that I want to tell you, but there is no way I can with out spoiling something HUGE, but trust me it is amazing!

Synopsis

They’re two sharks in a fish tank . . .

JARED

If I had a dollar for every time Banner Morales made my heart skip a beat…
The heart everyone assumes is frozen over.
Her anger is…arousing.
Every glare from those fire-spitting eyes, every time she grits her teeth, gets me…well, you know.
If I had a dollar for every time she’s put me in my place, I’d be an even richer man.
I’m a successful sports agent because I assume “no” means you’ll think about it.
I’m sure what you meant to say is “Coming right up.”
They say even rich men don’t always get what they want, but those men don’t know how to play the game. The trick is to keep them guessing.
Take Banner. She assumes she’s winning, but this game?
She doesn’t even know how to play.

BANNER

If I had a dollar for every time Jared Foster broke my heart, I’d have exactly one dollar.
One night. One epic fail. One dollar…and I’m out.
I’ve moved on.
I’ve found success in a field ruled by men.
Anything they can do, I have done better.
They can keep the field while I call the shots, blocking them when I have to.
And Jared has the nerve to think he gets a second chance?
Boy, please. Go sit down. Have several seats.
I’ll just be over here ignoring the man carved from my fantasies with a lust-tipped chisel.
Oh, I didn’t say the struggle wasn’t real.
But I’ve got that one dollar, and Jared won’t have me.

Review

Block Shot by Kennedy Ryan is the second standalone in the Hoops series and I have got to say that I may have loved Jared and Banner slightly more than August and Iris, although just barely. The author’s writing is beyond incredible and her character development is always on point! My heart goes into overdrive every single time I pick up one of her stories and the emotional rollercoaster I go on time and time again is always worth it.

Ever since devouring Long Shot earlier this year I have wanted to get my hands on another book in this series and although I was really hoping we’d get Lotus and Kenan. However, after reading this one I am so glad that Jared and Banner’s story was first. I absolutely loved these two and the fact that their story was a combination of an enemies-to-lovers and second chance romance made me love it even more. I mean come on those are two of my all-time favorite genres so there was no way I wouldn’t love it. Oh and did I mentioned how hilarious their banter was because it totally was and their chemistry was undeniable!

Readers make sure to one-click this beautifully captivating story today and fall in love with Jared and Banner!

Synopsis

The people we love are thieves.
They steal our hearts. They steal our breath.
They steal our sanity.
And we let them.
Over and over and over again.

*********************************************

They say you never forget your first time.
Mine was with a homeless musician who effed my brains out under a bridge.

He was my first love. And sixteen years later, I still can’t get him out of my head.

He broke all my rules.
He also broke my heart.

I watched him climb to stardom, cheering him on from afar.
But I was never a fan; just a girl in love.

Like a tornado, he spiraled, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.

But love conquers all, right? It has to. Because here I stand, ravaged and ruined, needing it to be true.

You can’t go back, but I want to. Back to the bridge. Back to when he sang only for me. Before he was famous. Before he shattered my heart.

I thought I knew everything about him.
But I could not have been more wrong.

He promised me every tomorrow. And here I am, waiting.
And hoping.
Again.

Review

This story is truly, and I do mean truly, unlike anything I have EVER read before. It’s 150% original and it is an emotionally captivating tale that will surely have you bursting out into tears so many times throughout. While I have read every single one of Carian Cole’s past releases, not even those incredible stories could have prepared me for the heart and emotion that the author showed through the eyes of Blue and Piper. These two are the true definition of soulmates. Together they prove that love is messy, it is complicated, and even a little heartbreaking at times. Love is not always certain but if you can make it through those hard times, love will always conquer in the end.

No Tomorrow is a beautifully emotional and heart-wrenching story that deals with the complex issue of mental illness. The author does an extraordinary job opening up the readers eyes to all the pain behind this “taboo” subject that is often pushed out of sight. As someone who has seen mental health firsthand through myself and the struggles I have seen my own father and younger sister go through, this story was hard for me to read. It was not because they story was bad, or that the author didn’t show the real side of mental health, but because she did. This book brought back so many difficult memories, but I certainly won’t trade in any of the heartache I experienced. Blue and Piper captured me whole body, heart, and soul. I am truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to read this beyond epic story.

This review was hard to write. Why, oh why does it seem like the more amazing the story, the more difficulty I have coming up with the right words to explain how much I absolutely loved a story? Carian Cole’s words have always seem to do that to me. This story deserves so much more than the five star rating I was able to give this book, but I want the author to know that her words are everything and this story is her best to date (although trust me they are all phenomenal)! Readers are going to fall head over heels in love with this emotional rollercoaster read that will have you up, down and all around!

Synopsis

Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.
Notorious playboy.
Heir to a media empire.
…And my new boss.

I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.
I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory–namely, his wallet.
Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.
But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.
Brooklyn girl.
Infamously quirky.
Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.
When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.
He knows it.
So do I.
Every day in the newsroom is a battle.
Every night in his bed, war.
But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag.

Review

Dirty Headlines by L.J. Shen is a sexy and angsty enemies-to-lovers office romance that will have you swooning time and time again! This is the kind of story that readers will find impossible to put down because the moment you dive into this one you will want to devour it until the very end. The main characters are so unique and I loved every drama filled moment these two had. I seriously could not get enough of them and I never wanted their story to end.

The storyline is so different from the classic office romance and I think that has to do with Célian and Jude. These two are one of a kind and their chemistry is undeniable right from the beginning. Sure there are a few…okay maybe a lot of bumps in the road, but you will be swooning for these two the entire time. Oh and did I mention that their back and forth banter is the best part. Get ready for a rollercoaster of events when you pick up this story.

This has got to be one of L.J. Shen’s best books to date and I can’t help but recommend that you drop everything you are doing right now so that you can go and one-click this incredible story! You are just going to love Célian and Jude!

Bestselling authors Brittainy C. Cherry and Kandi Steiner come together for the first time in an emotional compilation of poetry and prose. Written and collected over the course of more than two years, A Love Letter from the Girls Who Feel Everything is an intimate, honest, and raw assemblage of two women’s feelings in a modern world that often quiets any kind of emotion past indifference.

Discussing themes of love, worth, loss and hope, A Love Letter from the Girls Who Feel Everything is a journey of discovery and healing.

“We are the girls who feel everything.

And this is our love letter. To you, to them, to us, to the world, to no one at all. Whether it’s the brightest, sunniest day where everything is perfect, or the darkest, dreariest night of rain where life seems unbearable — we have lived it, we have survived it, and we have felt every, blissful, aching second.

Here’s to embracing the feels, to the brave souls that listen to the way their hearts beat and aren’t afraid to ask someone else if they feel those same beats, too. Here’s to the girls, the boys, the love we sometimes share and the love we all-too-often conceal.

And more than anything, Reader — here’s to you.”

Review

Kandi Steiner and Brittainy C. Cherry made me feel EVERYTHING with this beautiful collection of poetry and prose.

It wasn’t until recently that I decided to give poetry another chance because it’s been a few years since I have come across a collection that I felt inclined to read. However the moment I heard these two teamed up to publish a book filled with poetry and prose I knew that I needed to get my hands on it. Oh my goodness was I so honored to have been given the opportunity to experience these words and feel everything that the authors were feeling.

A Love Letter from the Girls Who Feel Everything will set your heart on fire and you will feel EVERYTHING. Your emotions will surely be all over the place and you will fall in love with their unique writing. I absolutely adore these authors separately, but together they bring out a whole new side of one another. These two are the perfect writing duo and I would love to see them write a full length novel together one day. Fans of these two are going to go crazy over these beautiful words.

About Kandi Steiner

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.
