Synopsis

Sometimes holding on, impedes moving on.

First comes love, then comes marriage…
But before the ceremony could start, Porter’s world was knocked off it’s axis.
He fought for years to break down Asher’s walls, to see past her ghosts…but some ghosts may be too hard to fight.

Asher knew better than to believe she could keep her past in the past,
Keep the filth of who she was, from touching the Prescott family.
But as badly as she wants to keep Porter away
…she needs his family more.

What you see is what you get…
And even the most astute eyes can’t see the biggest ghost.

But sometimes holding on is the only choice you have.

*Note: This is book two in a duet. Book one, Altercation, MUST be read prior to Holding.

Review

I generously received this BETA copy from the author in exchange for an honest review…

Holding is the perfect conclusion to Asher and Porter’s tragically beautiful duet…

I am so very fortunate to be a BETA reader for this extraordinarily talented women! The first story that I ever read (devoured) from her was Interference (Caleb and Sydney) when I signed up through IndieSagePR for the chance to read and review it back in late July/early August 2016. Truth be told I almost didn’t sign up for the blog tour because I had just gotten back into blogging and I was a little apprehensive to signup, but am I glad that I did! Not only has she become one of my favorite authors, but now I am a supporter of all things Mignon! This women is too modest for her own good and she refuses to accept how talented she really is (but don’t worry because Melissa P and I are making sure to let her know everyday)!

Anyways back to my review…

I have been wanting to write this review for quite sometime (practically from the moment that I finished the last sentence) but with the chance of “accidentally” sharing spoilers from Altercation, the first story in the Playmaker Duet, I have forced myself to wait…until now because hello waiting is so overrated you know. So…here I am attempting to write a SPOILER FREE review because I am so impatient when it comes to sharing my thoughts about an amazing and I do mean AMAZING book!

Holding begins shortly after the events (from the cliffhanger at the end of) Altercation and wow what a great way to pick this story back up. If you loved the adventure in the first part of the duet, then you are going to adore what happens next. Asher and Porter are a one-of-a-kind couple that will melt your heart and have you in tears after just a few pages. Did I forget to mention that this book will have you UGLY CRYING more. Yep, that is right. Mignon Mykel’s words will give you all the feels and her characters will stick with you from the beginning to the end.

Okay… That is all I am going to say for now (I may update my review closer to the release day or shortly after) because if I keep this up I am going to spoil something and then I will have some angry readers on my ass for spoiling something major…

Again, I must thank Mignon Mykel for entrusting in me another extraordinary BETA read! I pledge to still be reading her stories when I am old and gray. You lady will always have my support throughout your entire career. Wait…does that make me a stalker? Oh well, I am officially Mignon Mykel’s NUMBER 1 STALKER and PROUD of it!

Review

Oh no she didn’t. Oh yes she did! Mignon Mykel has once again turned my entire world upside down with her next release Altercation, which is releasing on MARCH 28, so make sure you go and place your orders now because you are going to want this book the moment it goes live. Trust me! I absolutely adored both of their novellas leading up to this release – Trouble Maker (Porter’s) and Breakaway (Asher’s which released – Feb. 28, 2017), but not even those stories can compare to my feelings for their first full length novel!

Altercation is a beautifully captivating story that’ll instantly capture you whole body and soul. As part of Mignon Mykel’s BETA team I was emailed a copy at around midnight on the 28th of February (which I “mistakenly” opened when I should have been going to bed) and I quickly devoured every word on the page until I finished it at roughly 4:30am. Their story was truly one of a kind and I know I say that a lot, but it’s true! Porter and Asher. Asher and Porter. These two have perhaps been elected as my all-time favorite book couple. I do not think that any other book couple can ever outrank these two for a place in my heart.

This story is told throughout a four year timeframe and the author has done an extraordinary job highlighting and showing us glimpses into the making of their relationship. In the beginning Asher is closed off (if you’ve read Breakaway, you will completely understand why. However, if you chose not to read it because of the emotional aspect you will find out in a delicate manner) and afraid to let Porter in, but the moment he breaks down her walls, their undenying connection is breathtaking. We see the highs and the lows, the good and the bad moments – and trust me they have their fair share of moments. And that cliffhanger at the end. WOW – it is perhaps the best cliffhanger I have ever read. This ending will have you instantly craving for the next installment – Holding!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You Mignon Mykel for the opportunity to read this book before it is released because honestly I didn’t know how much longer I could last after reading Breakaway where we met Asher, a young women of the run from her past.

Synopsis

Once upon a time, in a faraway place…

I learned that monsters exist
That the dark is meant for fear
That sometimes, you can’t even count on yourself

I just have to get past senior year finals, and I can break away-

I can leave the past,
the monsters,
the ghosts,
far, far behind.

I just can’t break beforehand.

Excerpt

My eyes flew open at the quiet click of the bedroom door.

I knew better than to fall into a deep sleep.

I stayed lying on my side, my knees drawn up to my chest, as I watched the shadow move along the carpeted bedroom floor.

This wasn’t my bedroom.

It wasn’t my home.

It was the longest home I’d been placed in, sure, but there was certainly no feeling of belonging here.

“Hello, sweetheart.”

Review

I generously received this ARC as part of Mignon Mykel’s BETA Team in exchange for an honest opinion!

While the Trouble Maker introduced us to Porter, the youngest of the Prescott clan, Breakaway is the second novella in the Playmaker Duet and is told entirely in Asher’s POV.

The extraordinary Mignon Mykel takes her readers on an emotional rollercoaster and shows us a strong message about the struggles that so many children in the foster care system face day in and day out. This book is certainly darker then anything I have ever read from this author, but it is needed for the readers to better connect with Asher (by the way I absolutely adore that name, well some people dislike boy names for girls, I LOVE them) and understand her circumstances leading to her chance encounter with Porter!

Although this story is both extremely emotional and may be considered a trigger for some, I strongly recommend giving this beautifully written story a chance because it is one you need to know. This author tugged on every single one of my heartstrings and left me in tears from the beginning to the very end! I am already counting down the days until Altercation is released!
