An epic, three-book saga of forbidden love coming 2017.
It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken…no matter how hard we tried.
I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.
What an extraordinary beginning to this epic three-book saga about forbidden love. Jessica Hawkins has managed to take her readers back to the 1990’s in this emotionally captivating story and reintroduce us to things like Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd. I literally felt as if I was transported back in time and was experiencing all the things Lake and Manning had. I just finished this book super early this morning (around 4:30am if we’re being accurate) when I should’ve been sleeping after a LONG day of work. But I WANTED to, no I NEEDED to finish this story before my mind would allow me to go to sleep.
After reading the first book, Something in the Way — which ended in a Cliffhanger of course — all I can say is that Jessica Hawkins has successfully left me in a trance and gave me the most epic book hanger ever. If I could have given this story a THOUSAND STARS, I would have without a doubt. I just have one question – IS IT MAY YET? I know, I know that it’s only three months away but I NEED the second book like yesterday! Can’t we just fast-forward the clock three months ahead? PLEASE!
If you haven’t been fortunate enough to have read a story from the extraordinary and talented Jessica Hawkins yet, Something in the Way, would be the perfect introduction to her amazing writing style and character development.
