Kade Kingsley is sick of hiding out in the middle of nowhere.
He should be having a good time, partying and living it up, not playing bodyguard to his best friend’s runaway witness girlfriend.
When he decides to leave the mountainside he’s called home for the last two months, he promises to be careful. He knows the stakes are high, and he knows that the makeshift family he’s leaving behind is counting on him to come back.
What he doesn’t count on is getting mugged and left for dead.
And he definitely doesn’t count on being rescued by a girl with secrets of her own…secrets that rival his.
As Julienne Bishop, a down-on-her-luck girl hiding from an abusive ex-boyfriend, nurses Kade back to health, an uneasy bond forms between them. They need each other, even if they don’t realize it, and even if they have a hard time accepting it.
Because danger is coming at them from both sides, and they must figure out if they can trust each other.
Before it’s too late.
I generously received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review!
Speak No Evil is the second book in the Brotherhood Trilogy written by the extraordinary Jordan Ford (Melissa Pearl)! I thought that nothing could ever compare to the first book, but the author did it again. Even though I loved the first book in this trilogy, Kade’s story has managed to wedged its way into my heart, leaving me with the ultimate book hangover!
The book picks up about two months from where the first one ends. This story follows Kade’s journey after leaving his “family” in the cabin that is owned by Riley’s uncle who has mysteriously disappeared without a trace prior to their arrival. Although Kade loves his “brothers” and is willing to do anything for them, he is sick and tired of hiding out in these isolated mountains that they fled to at the end of the first book after Ana was shot. Leaving his “family” behind, Kade finds himself in Reno with a new identity. Gone is the eighteen year old prep school “runaway” Kade Kingsley and in his place emerges a twenty-one old Karl Hannon. Kade had no intention of staying in Reno, but when he is offered a job and the opportunity to play hockey once again he jumps at the chance, figuring he could make a few extra bucks before finding somewhere else go.
Julienne Bishop a.k.a. Jules away ran from her abusive ex-boyfriend after discovering that she was pregnant. Her plan is to stay under the radar until she gives birth and can give it up for adoption. Ending up in Reno she works as a kitchen hand at Skate Home Bar and Grill to make money while trying to hide her pregnancy from those around her. When she meets “Karl” she’s instantly attracted to him but knows that nothing can ever happen. One night Jules is walking home from work when she discovers “Karl” beaten and left for dead in the center of the rink. Nursing him back to health they begin to get closer and their connection is instantly undeniable.
Once their secrets begin to come out they must keep each other safe at all costs…
